Tough devices for mobile workers

Written by MyMobileWorkers

It’s that horrible feeling.

It’s the moment you drop your smartphone and you’re bracing yourself for impact.

Time stands still as all the consequences start racing through your brain - the hassle, the lost data and the cost of replacing the blighter.

And then it finally hits the ground - either with a reassuring thud or a heartbreaking shatter.

Wrecking a phone has always been an ordeal but especially now that lots more of us use mobiles for work purposes.

So we've put together a list of tough devices for mobile workers. These are the kind of phones Bear Grylls would use to order a ‘survival’ pizza.

Samsung Galaxy Xcover 4

Product specs | Price: Around £200

The fact that there are so many videos on YouTube of people trying - and failing - to smash Xcovers, says a lot about their reputation. It was made for outdoor pursuit types but is ideal for handling mobile worker bashings.

What’s noticeable about the phone is it feels like a proper smartphone - it's thin, but with an easy grip and non-slip finish.

It's also super handy for people who work outdoors - it's increased touch sensitivity means that even gloves can work on it.

This is the newer model of an already tough line of phones. You can pick up the Xcover 3 and Xcover 2 too; the specs are no longer cutting edge but it means you can pick them up for some bargain prices.

Galaxy Tab Active

Product specs | Price: Around £370

If it's a tablet you're looking for, the Galaxy Tab Active is ideal for mobile workers - its 8" screen means that information can be displayed and entered with ease.

It's the type of tablet that can be dropped, dropped in water, withstand dust etc. But what really makes it special is its security. It uses Samsung's KNOX security solution, making this tablet tough in all senses of the word.

Cat S60

Product specs | Price: Around £650

The Droid Guy recommends Cat's S60 as one of the "most rugged smartphone for everyday use" and we have to agree.

This is made by US company Caterpillar - better known for building massive hard-as-nails construction vehicles. And they’ve brought the same approach to this rugged device which is designed to cope with whatever you chuck at it.

It has a toughened Gorilla Glass 4 screen and is certified as dust proof and waterproof. It means you can dunk it in your coffee for an hour - although, I’m not sure why you’d want to do this.

Otterbox phone cases

Product specs | Price: ranges from £15 - £70

OK, OK. This one isn't a device as such. But we couldn't not include Otterboxes now could we.

These tough, protective cases allow any device to be transformed into a more rugged version. The Defender series allows for the same protection from drops, dust and scratches as its rugged counterparts, with the added advantage of the phone inside being one that's also equipped with the latest Android snazziness.

And that's it! A round up of tough devices for mobile workers. You might be going about your day. You might be making a decision of what tough device you're going to buy. Or you might go and watch someone douse 2 phones in Coca-Cola. Why not.
